High Court Session in Mukono

The High Court in Mukono has commenced handling of 40 criminal\r\ncases that include aggravated defilement, murder, rape and aggravated robbery.

\r\n\r\n

The session presided over by Hon. Justice Lameck Mukasa, is\r\nexpected to run for a month. While addressing the stake holders at Mukono Court\r\non Monday February 10,2014; Hon. Justice Mukasa asked local leaders, security\r\norgans, media, lawyers and all involved in cases like the witnesses to always\r\navail themselves to offer the needed support if the work is to be successful.\r\nThe session handled cases committed in the districts of Buvuma, Buikwe,\r\nMukono and Kayunga.

\r\n\r\n

Hon. Justice Mukasa said there were about 400 cases committed to\r\nthe High Court for trial from greater Mukono, but the session would only handle\r\n40 cases due to limited funds and under staffing.

\r\n\r\n

He added that limited funds and Judges were the leading cause\r\nof case backlog. He has also noted that failure of witnesses to appear in court to\r\ntestify left many court cases pending, while in other cases criminals are set\r\nfree due to lack of evidence which has led to increased crime.

\r\n\r\n


\r\nHe further noted that 
juveniles were increasingly committing grave cases,\r\nstealing of babies and child trafficking were also common. He appealed to the politicians to stop promoting mob justice and always be\r\nsensitive on its impact on people.
